Ultimate Boxing has been 100% class based (with private personal training available to book) for a long time. All of our group classes remain unchanged but we understand that there are people who can’t always make specific class times who would prefer an open gym walk in and train format.
Here’s how it works:
The Ultimate Circuit involves a number of circuit training stations using various equipment around the gym. The famous old school boxing round timer with the distinctive start and finish bell will run non stop all day at times when we don’t have specific classes running. So for five and a half hours during the week you can now walk in and use the gym between classes.
The continuous round timer runs for three minutes work time followed by one minute rest. It means that effectively a new circuit starts every four minutes throughout the day. You just turn up at any time within the Ultimate Circuit hours, warm up and then select which stations you want to do. It could be a workout as short as 30 minutes (5 minutes warm up, 5 x 3 minute rounds each with 1 minute rest, 5 minutes warm down) or as long as you like up to 2 hours! Just keep going. The circuit exercises selected are up to you so its completely flexible and can be biased towards punching, cardio exercises, resistance strength training in the weights room or a bit of everything.
For those people whose fitness needs a bit of building up we can set up different timers with 1 minute work and 1 minute rest for example. If a participant is particularly unfit they can use the 3 minute timer but the opposite way around so 1 minute work and 3 minutes rest. We cater for everybody no matter how fit or unfit so long as you are medically safe to train. It’s always great to see the less fit people start to make progress and increase their training volume via the different time intervals.
A good circuit is a great form of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT.) If you prefer a long, slow calorie-burning steady state workout that’s fine too.
There is a bit of everything available and changing things up regularly is a great way to sustain enjoyment and results.
If you have trained using all of our equipment before you can just turn up and either work through your favoured stations from the Ultimate Circuit, or if you prefer to formulate your own punching workout on the bags that’s fine. Some people will enjoy simply warming up and smashing through round after round of heavy punch bag work until they’ve had enough and then warm down. Others may work through a normal all round boxing session involving shadow boxing, skipping, bag work, cardio exercise finishing with some resistance training in the weight room. If just hitting the weights room for a good strength session appeals, that’s great, go for it.
What if I’m new to this and I don’t know what to do?
People who attend our coached Ultimate Boxing Fitness classes are shown what to do and coached from start to finish through every class. If you want to bypass the classes preferring to start with the daytime open gym / Ultimate Circuit we will give you a free of charge induction which amounts to a short Personal Training session. This will involve being shown all of the equipment around the whole gym and going through some of the exercises. During this mini PT session we’ll get you warmed up and take you on the punching pads for a few rounds of basic one to one coaching. The first few times you come along for the Ultimate Circuit we will also guide you through it to make sure you don’t hurt yourself and have confidence to then just turn up and train solo or with one or two friends.
